This is a treatment program with multiple providers, including:
The Renfrew Center, now celebrating its 40th anniversary, has been the pioneer in the treatment of eating disorders since 1985. As the nation's first residential eating disorder facility, now with 17 locations throughout the country, Renfrew has helped more than 100,000 cisgender adolescent girls and adult women, transgender and non-binary individuals with eating disorders move towards recovery. Renfrew provides patients suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating, and the full range of eating disorders with the tools they need to succeed in recovery and in life. Renfrew's extensive range of services includes residential, day treatment, intensive outpatient, and outpatient groups, ensuring patients can receive treatment at the level of intensity that meets their current needs, and offers the ability to step up or down as their recovery progress.
Each treatment level is built upon The Renfrew Center Unified Treatment Model for Eating Disorders® (UT), an evidence-based, emotion-focused therapy that addresses eating disorders and co-morbid symptoms. This model addresses not only the eating disorder, but also the underlying emotional and psychological factors such as anxiety, depression, and trauma, which often co-occur with disordered eating. By focusing on emotional regulation and relationship-building, the UT offers a holistic and tailored approach to each patient's needs. This comprehensive care model stands out because it treats the whole person, ensuring that patients leave with a deep understanding of how to maintain emotional balance and relational health, which are crucial to long-term recovery. It is also a part of the Oxford University Press Treatments That Work Series.
Renfrew’s wide range of specialized programming is designed to meet the unique needs of diverse patient populations. We offer identity-based programs such as our BIPOC, faith-based, midlife, and SAGE (LGBTQ+) programs, as well as those tailored for adolescents, college students, and individuals struggling with trauma or substance use disorders. This allows us to create safe, inclusive spaces where patients can feel understood and supported by peers who share similar life experiences. Our approach includes creative arts therapy, occupational therapy, and other forms of expressive therapy, ensuring that patients have multiple outlets for processing their emotions and healing. Few other treatment centers offer this level of specialized, inclusive programming, which sets Renfrew apart in the field of eating disorder care.
