Hi, I’m Maureen (she/her), and I’m an experienced therapist who helps young adults navigate trauma, family relationships, and the stress of major life transitions. Many of my clients are managing ADHD, shifting family roles, or recovering from emotionally unsafe or narcissistic parents. I often see folks who appear successful on the outside but are struggling inside. I advocate for people who are starting something new and scary or leaving behind something painful. I also worked in a college counseling center for 9 years, so I've got lots of experience with what students are coming in with. Whatever it is you are looking to unload, I offer a warm and validating space to explore what you’ve been carrying.

I work with individuals and couples in Georgia who are seeking support for various mental health challenges. Many of my clients have difficulties related to anxiety, depression, and past trauma that get in the way of enjoying life and thriving to their fullest potential. I also work with people who are diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, and related conditions. The foundation of my therapy is a collaborative relationship based on warmth and acceptance. I look beyond the mental health “condition” and seek to understand you as a person, influenced by your identities and past experiences. I will work collaboratively with you to develop goals for therapy and a plan to attain those goals. I provide a tailored therapy experience by utilizing a variety of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), interpersonal therapy, emotion-focused couples therapy, and the Gottman Method. Overall, I seek to empower you with the skills to live a meaningful life based on your personal goals and values. Whether you are interested in individual therapy or couples counseling, I am looking forward to connecting with you and working together to create the change you are seeking. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Georgia who is passionate about being a psychotherapist and actually feels called to it. I believe that we all deserve to live a meaningful and fulfilled life, where we feel ACCEPTED, HEARD, SEEN, CARED FOR, and VALUED. I have a genuine interest and curiosity about people… about how we became the people that we are, who and what influenced are decisions, what we believe, and how they contribute to the ways we think, feel and behave. I am very zealous about helping people know and appreciate who they really are, and not just what people and experiences have conditioned them to believe they should be. My main areas of focus are on Anxiety, Attachment Issues, Self-Worth and Trauma where I infuse a mixture of CBT, EMDR, Inner Child, Parts Works and Reality therapy in our sessions to achieve your goals in therapy. However, the greatest help I provide is giving you different perspectives and insight that may have not been considered before, which in turn may change the way you feel and think about the situation. It is my hope that after understanding how your past has shaped how you view your current circumstances, and presses on your future, that you can heal from it and move forward. My Christian faith is also a big part of who I am and how I view the world. For those interested in incorporating Christian counseling in their sessions this can be an amazing way to grow your faith, and help to reestablish your belief in God and how He sees you. I understand that not everyone feels or believes the way I do, and that is perfectly fine. Being a Christian is not a requirement to meet with me, nor does it have to influence our sessions unless desired. I am a staunch believer in not treating people differently for any reason, and respecting one’s choice to believe whatever they want to believe.

Do you find yourself constantly wondering if you measure up? Have passing thoughts that if people knew the real you they wouldn't hire you, be your friend, respect or admire you? Holding yourself to a high standard provides some amazing benefits AND it can really hold you back if it's an all-or-nothing situation. When your worth and value are on the line in every interaction, you live in a constant state of anxiety and have a hard time resting or enjoying your down time. When I was in my twenties, I was anxious and depressed but I never would've used those labels at the time. My life was great on paper – I thought I was happy because I thought should be happy. Then, in the moments when I noticed that I wasn’t feeling great, I beat myself up for not being positive and upbeat or grateful enough for everything I had. I thought that just feeling kinda sad and worried most of the time was normal and inevitable. The truth is, it is pretty normal, but it's not inevitable. In fact, part of what drives me to help people is that the level of unease I felt seems so common. I strongly suspect that there are people suffering needlessly who don't know that there are ways to feel better. One thing to know up front: working with me is weird! My clients who've been to therapy before or seen it on TV are often surprised by a few things about my practice. There's homework, and we'll both be writing things down in sessions. We won't just talk about the things you think and feel, we'll work together to change them for the better.

The Tolleson Counseling Center is a private practice located in Marietta and focuses on helping clients with anxiety, stress management, trauma, perfectionism, self-esteem, and issues related to neurodiversity. Many clients who come to work with us identify as high-achieving teenage or adult women. They’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and burnt out and are often looking to learn different ways to manage the stress they experience from trying to balance their numerous responsibilities. We're particularly passionate about helping these clients challenge perfectionistic tendencies, set boundaries, learn healthy coping strategies, and increase self-awareness and confidence.

As a former university professor for 26 years before becoming a counselor, I understand the pressures and struggles college students face. We offer in-person sessions as well as teletherapy. Our practice and interventions are inclusive and supportive for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals. Our sessions focus on fostering deep connections, ensuring you feel seen, heard, validated and valued. Life is all about relationships. Relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, and our community. While relationships can often bring us great joy, they can also sometimes generate feelings of anxiety, depression, and uncertainty. Through our therapeutic partnership, I will help you build the skills to better manage these disruptive feelings and gain insight into your behaviors, ultimately allowing you to find balance and fulfillment. I work with individuals, couples, and families of all backgrounds and take particular interest in women’s issues such as empowerment and identity. My environment is safe and inclusive, allowing you to feel comfortable exploring yourself. I believe each person comes to therapy with a unique set of experiences and expectations, therefore, I customize my therapeutic approach to meet your needs while also offering new perspectives. It would be a privilege to be a part of your journey, helping you and your relationships reach their greatest potential.

College can ask a great deal of you, whether you are adjusting to undergraduate life, navigating the demands of graduate school, balancing school with work or family responsibilities, or trying to determine what comes next. You may look capable on the outside while privately feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted. The strategies that once helped you succeed may no longer feel like enough. At Aspen Grove Counseling and Wellness, our therapists support college and graduate students navigating academic pressure, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, relationship concerns, identity questions, family expectations, burnout, and significant life transitions. Therapy offers a space to slow down, understand what you are carrying, and find ways of moving forward that feel more sustainable and more connected to who you are. You do not have to wait until things become unmanageable to seek support. We invite you to reach out, and we will help connect you with a therapist whose experience and approach may be a good fit for you.

I work with undergraduate and graduate students who are struggling with a variety of mental health, substance use, and existential problems. My patients are often looking to reduce their suffering and increase their sense of meaning and purpose in life. I especially enjoy working with people who are interested in a deeper self-understanding and working together to uncover the feelings, narratives, conflicts, and motivations that may be ruling their lives but outside of their awareness. My first priority when working with new patients is to establish trust and help create a relationship that is safe and honest. Within the context of this secure relationship, my patients are able to better understand their self-limiting or self-defeating patterns, mourn life's losses, and establish or reestablish a life that is organized around the values that matter most to them. My hope is that my patients will develop a reliable self-esteem, improve their ability to be in relationship with self and others, and live life with less reactivity and more flexibility. I received an MSW degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work before gaining clinical experience in diverse settings all along the addiction medicine levels of care. I opened a private practice in 2023 and currently provide services to adolescents, adults, families, and organizations.
