Therapists for college students near Georgia State University
I’m Ellen Burt Baker, LPC, and I’ve been honored to walk alongside individuals on their healing journeys for over 25 years. My practice offers a heart-centered, safe, and compassionate space where you can explore, heal, and grow exactly as you are. My approach to therapy is heart-centered, intuitive, and grounded in both clinical skill and body-brain healing modalities. I integrate powerful techniques such as Brainspotting, EMDR, EFT/Tapping, Hypnotherapy, and IADC® to support deep transformation. When requested, I also incorporate heart-centered practices to support your process holistically. I work with a variety of clients - those healing from trauma, managing anxiety or depression, navigating life decisions or transitions, or exploring their spiritual path. Many of my clients are reconnecting with their own intuition and inner wisdom, and I consider it a privilege to support that journey. I specialize in working with people who have already done some therapeutic work and are ready to go deeper—to move through the blocks and barriers that may still be holding them back. I meet each client exactly where they are. Our work together is a true partnership. I offer a space that is affirming and always welcoming. I bring warmth, humor, and a supportive presence into every session, helping clients feel seen, heard, and empowered.
College students often come to me when they feel stuck in painful relationship patterns, weighed down by negative self-perceptions, or overwhelmed by their emotional experiences. Through compassion and careful emotional attunement, I help create meaningful, corrective experiences that support lasting change, strengthen self-understanding, and build a more grounded sense of confidence. I enjoy helping young adults navigate difficult family dynamics, set boundaries with themselves and others, and improve self-esteem. With almost a decade of experience working with college students, I understand the unique stressors that come with earning a college degree while also learning how to be an adult. I am passionate about helping young adults thrive as they navigate the transition to adulthood.
College is a big step for most. It can be the first time we leave home. Navigating independence and responsibility. We can experience stress, failure, isolation, and loneliness. Understanding new relationships can be challenging. This season can create sadness, lack of motivation, unhealthy habits, anxiousness and more. Having a therapist walk alongside you during this time can reduce your symptoms and serve as an investment for your future. Tracy’s therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that healthy communication and strong boundaries are essential for personal growth and thriving relationships. She focuses on the over all health, include brain health, and works collaboratively with clients, using evidence-based techniques to help them achieve their goals and overcome barriers. As part of Tracy’s holistic approach to therapy, she is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a highly effective treatment for trauma recovery and other symptoms. She has advanced training in brain health, emotional focused therapy, Christian integration, and couples therapy. In addition, she has an understanding of military life. Whether navigating personal struggles or seeking healing, Tracy provides a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment to help clients find peace and fulfillment. At Transforming Fields our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing space for individuals and couples on their journey to emotional well-being. We are dedicated to offering evidence-based therapy and counseling services that empower our clients to overcome life’s challenges, heal from past traumas, and develop the resilience needed to thrive. Committed to fostering a compassionate and non-judgmental environment, where clients are supported to live a fulfilled and balanced life.
In our "land of the free," experiences of depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma are increasingly common. Many feel weighed down by shame about the past, dread about the future, or disconnection in their relationships. Our culture that demands constant productivity makes it easy to lose sight of meaning and connection. I work with people navigating these challenges, particularly those at the intersections of religious trauma, neurodivergence, and gender & sexual identity. If you're searching for clarity, growth, and connection, I am here to partner with you. My practice is informed by DBT, ACT, psychodynamic theory, and intersectional feminism. I aim to be a fellow explorer and accountability partner. Above all, I am a curious person, and I thrive on finding the joy and (sometimes dark) humor in everyday life. I know that finding a therapist and scrolling through profiles can be stressful or scary. If you're feeling that way, we can start there. In our sessions, no topic is taboo or off the table (try me). Authenticity is never wasted, and I want to meet you in whatever stage you're at, mentally and emotionally. Reach out and let's chat.
Many of the clients I work best with are people who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of the next step in life. They may be dealing with stress, anxiety, relationship struggles, faith questions, or changes that feel difficult to manage on their own. Often, they’re looking for a safe place where they can talk openly, sort through their thoughts, and begin to rebuild confidence and peace. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you’re in the right place. My practice is built on creating a calm, supportive space where you can feel understood, respected, and encouraged. Together, we’ll explore what you’re facing, uncover what you need, and work toward real, practical change at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I believe that mental health is a journey of piecing together multiple working parts, and I hope to be a part of that process with you. About Me I hold a PhD in Social Work and I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving the states of Georgia and Maryland. I received my PhD from the University of Alabama, my MSW from the University of Georgia, and BA from The University of Alabama. I have multiple years of clinical experience among various populations (children, teens, families, and young adults), various backgrounds, and in numerous settings (residential, inpatient, outpatient, private practice). I also currently hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Social Work. I am someone with whom people generally feel at ease and comfortable, which is an important part of what makes therapy work. My initial goal within the therapeutic relationship is to provide you with just that: a positive, safe, and comfortable place, where you feel at ease to talk about things that matter to you. Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my pets, finding challenging hikes, cooking/baking, going to the beach/finding water, gardening, exploring the city, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy picking up new creative projects and DIYs! Who I Help & What I Help With Who I Can Help 1. Children (6-12) 2. Teens (13-17) 3. Emerging & Young Adults (18-29) 4. Adult Couples What I Can Help With 1. Relationship issues or losing a relationship 2. Adjusting to and navigating life transitions 3. Improving unhealthy/disruptive habits and behaviors 4. Feeling sad or depressed 5. Trauma and loss 6. Feeling overwhelmed or anxious 7. Feeling alone or disconnected from others 8. Experiencing stress at work, school, or home 9. Conflict resolution and problem-solving 10. Learning to value and love yourself My Approach Types of Therapies It’s not uncommon for someone to enter therapy a bit nervous and with no clear sense of where to start – they simply want things to change for the better and to feel like themselves again. You are the expert of your own experience, but it’s easy to lose your way and feel lost when in distress. I will meet you wherever you are and help you piece things back to a sense of what normal feels like for you. The best approach is one that works for you, so I may draw on several different approaches to therapy, all of which have been shown by research to help individuals reduce stress, gain clarity, and make changes in their lives. They include but are not limited to: 1. Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) 2. Psychodynamic Therapy 3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) 4. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) 5. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) 6. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) 7. Person-Centered Therapy 8. Narrative Therapy 9. Culturally Sensitive Therapy Services & Payment Things to Know First 1. At this time, all sessions will be remote/virtual and take place through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. 2. You may choose the mode with which you are most comfortable (i.e., video, phone). 3. Virtual sessions are a great option for accessibility and flexibility, but please be sure to first, consider whether this is the most appropriate option for you at this time. How to Get Started Ready to get started? For scheduling of any kind (free consult, intake, regular sessions, etc.), just head to the “Contact Me” tab or the “book appointment” link at the bottom of every page of this website. You can schedule your first appointment on your own and whenever you’re ready with no initial contact required. Please note that I am committed to your privacy. Therefore, please do not include confidential or private information if you choose to email or call. Further and more detailed information will be exchanged through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. I look forward to speaking with you! Visits with me typically involve the following types of sessions: Intake Session: Assessment & Planning (60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $200) It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist, and while you have the option of beginning with a phone consultation or intake session, the first few sessions serve to help you and me decide whether the therapeutic relationship will be the best fit. The intake also serves as an Assessment and Planning phase, which is focused on learning more in depth about you, your history, and what brings you to therapy. This phase also allows me to begin putting together a plan for future sessions if you are comfortable with moving forward. All follow up sessions after the initial intake session will be considered a regular therapy session. Regular Individual Therapy Session (30-60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $90-$180) Following the Assessment and Planning phase, we’ll decide when and how often to meet. Session time frames depend on your treatment needs and personal circumstances and are guided by the plan we develop together. Please note that 30-minute sessions are private pay only. These sessions may work well for children and adolescents, day-to-day check-ins, more solution-focused sessions, quicker access to therapy, etc. Regular Family Therapy Session With Client (30 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $108, Private Pay Only) When needed, family sessions provide an opportunity to strengthen communication, address relational dynamics, and support your child or adolescent’s progress in treatment. These sessions may include parents/guardians, caregivers, and/or siblings depending on the goals we establish together. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Brief Family Therapy Session Without Client (15 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $54, Private Pay Only) These brief check-ins offer a dedicated space for parents and caregivers to share observations, ask questions, and stay connected to their child’s therapeutic progress without the client present. They are not a replacement for regular family sessions but rather, serve as a lightweight touchpoint between sessions when needed. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Couples Therapy Session (60 minutes; $216, Private Pay Only) Couples therapy sessions provide a structured space to address relational concerns, improve communication, and work toward shared goals within the relationship. These sessions are designed to support both partners in understanding relational patterns, navigating conflict more effectively, and building a stronger foundation for daily functioning together. Please note that all couples therapy sessions of any length are private pay only. Payment Options In-Network Insurance & Third-Party Payers I currently accept the following insurance plans in Georgia: 1. Aetna 2. Cigna/Evernorth 3. United Healthcare/UBH/Optum 4. Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans I currently accept the following insurance plans in Maryland: 1. Aetna 2. Cigna/Evernorth 3. United Healthcare/UBH/Optum 4. Medicaid/Carelon Behavioral Health 5. Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans This means that if you are enrolled in any of these plans (or potentially any of their subsidiaries), your out-of-pocket expense is limited to your deductible and copay/coinsurance. While I can assist in determining what these costs will be, it may be helpful to ask your insurance provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 2. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *I am currently working to become a provider in network with Anthem as well as any applicable subsidiaries under Anthem in the state of Georgia. I am also currently working to become a provider in network with CareFirst as well as any applicable subsidiaries under CareFirst in the state of Maryland. Private Pay & Out-of-Network Reimbursement I also accept private pay, and if you have another insurance provider, you may also have out-of-network benefits. With this option, your insurance benefits may reimburse the majority of the cost of therapy. With both private pay and out-of-network reimbursement, you will be provided with automatic invoices, statements, and superbills for any needed reimbursements later from your insurance provider. I recommend calling your insurance provider to learn more about how reimbursement works. It may be helpful to ask your provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. Does my plan provide out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health services? 2. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 3. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *Lack of insurance coverage, privacy concerns, flexibility, and quicker access to care are only a few of the reasons why one might choose this option. Cancellation Policy All clients are required to have an active credit/debit card on file at the time of scheduling an appointment. For appointment no-shows, last-minute cancellations, or inactive insurance, you will be charged in full regardless of reason. This is necessary, as a time commitment is made and held exclusively for you. You may still apply this fee to future appointments. Contact Me Ready to get started? College can be a fun and exciting chapter of life, but when something goes wrong, it can quickly feel out of control and overwhelming. Many students I work with are high achievers who appear to have it all together, yet privately struggle with anxiety, ADHD, self-doubt, loneliness, or the pressure to constantly perform and succeed, especially leading up to graduation as they prepare for the next chapter. When we live with constant pressures and a lack of self-compassion, we may begin feeling exhausted, disconnected, and unsure of ourselves. As a health psychologist, I enjoy helping college students navigate the academic, social, and personal challenges of this stage of life. Together, we’ll identify what’s getting in the way, build practical skills to manage stress and stay focused, and strengthen your confidence and self-compassion. My goal is always to ensure you feel heard and understood, and to help you create a life that feels balanced, meaningful, and true to who you are. Together, we gain clarity on personal values, goals, and we build strategies to break through barriers and move towards what you truly want in life.

It is incredibly important to have a space where you can just be you. My hope is to provide a comfortable place to talk and process life events, to celebrate successes and to navigate through challenges. There are so many different areas of life that are important, and balancing them all, while finding time to process it all can be challenging. Sometimes dealing with family relationships while away at school can be hard, especially when they are changing and shifting. At times, learning to navigate anxiety and expectations for school and peers can be overwhelming. Figuring out how to balance it all can be a big task. My goal is to support and help you find ways to grow and learn, and navigate these times so that you can be and become who you want to be.
