Individual Counseling is focused on the individual’s immediate or near future concerns. It may encompass education, career, goal setting, planning, grief after a loved one dies or dealing with other problems before they become insurmountable. Treatment Philosophy We are a counseling practice and professional team that believes in developing personal, caring relationships with our clients. Time after time, clinical studies have proven that success in counseling isn’t about theory or techniques. It’s about relationships. Specifically, the relationship between you and your clinician. We strive to make counseling a uniquely helpful and positive experience. A one size fits all approach doesn’t work. If people are individuals, shouldn’t counseling be individualized? We will work together to construct an approach that fits your needs and create an experience that helps you achieve progress. Our treatment philosophy values a strength-based outlook. In other words, while we’ll carefully consider your issues and concerns, we’ll also spend a considerable amount of time leveraging what you do well and how to build on those strengths using scientifically supported counseling techniques. Counseling doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out process to be helpful. Sometimes all it takes is a small step in the right direction for you to move forward in your life. Life can be hard. I get it. Especially when trying to balance the already difficult challenges of daily life and trying to be successful in higher education at the same time. Anxiety, family conflict, relationship problems, imposter syndrome, and other common problems are understandable concerns with everything today’s college student have to deal with. Adjustment to college by itself can be challenging, be it undergrad or even grad school. I believe I can help… I have a very down-to-earth, non-judgmental style and like to think that I am easy to talk to. I have over 20 years of experience in Mental Health and Higher Education. Therapeutically, I use an integrative approach that draws heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Systems Theory, and is influenced by social justice frameworks. Professionally my interests include racially marginalized students, developmental concerns, family of origin concerns, relationship concerns, stress/anxiety induced academic performance issues, men’s issues, and imposter syndrome/sense of belonging. Outside of work, I consider myself a “Blerd”. I’m a serious movie/cinema buff. I’m also a fan of all things Comics and Sci-Fi/fantasy. I enjoy community service and cultural events. (Note: I can not accept current Emory University Students)
Hi I'm Alison Cross! I am a psychotherapist, and I provide both in person and virtual services in Georgia and North Carolina. It’s important to have an idea of what feels like the right fit when you’re looking for a qualified person to talk to. The problem is, how do you know? So here's what it looks like with me. When my client leaves our session, my goal is for them to feel heard and respected. I want my clients to feel like they’re talking to a real person. How else can trust be built? My style has been described as 'down to earth, gentle, and encouraging.' I also have a great sense of humor that comes in only when appropriate. I view therapy as a safety net for the various issues clients bring. I will collaborate with you from the very first session on goals for your time. Some people I work with prefer to set the agenda for our time together, with just a few interjections from me. Understanding the big picture and getting to the heart of the matter are things I'm good at. I have also completed the Level 1 training in Internal Family Systems and Level 1 training in the Embodied Reocvery Model. I love using these models because they are beautifully client focused. My goal is to develop a positive therapeutic relationship with you. When that happens, hope is tangible and the spirit opens to new life and new beginnings. All sessions with me will be virtual unless I'm in Atlanta and we can coordinate an in person session.
