Therapists for college students near Chicago, IL
Hi there! My name is Kate, and I’m here to help you learn about yourself. My goal is to build a strong therapeutic alliance with you so we can understand your history, patterns, needs, and desires. I practice therapy with a trauma-informed and neurodivergent affirming lens; I believe in the importance of understanding your story and starting wherever you are. I also use a client-centered approach, meaning you get to set the pace and determine what's most important to you. So whether you’re suffering from anxiety or depression, struggling with change, or simply need a safe place to talk it out, I’m happy to be along for the ride.
Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. Working with me is warm, nonjudgmental, and collaborative. I might be a good fit if you’re an over-functioning perfectionist, people-pleaser, or eldest daughter ready to strengthen boundaries and take back your life. I specialize in supporting individuals transitioning to life with Type 1 diabetes, inner child work, recovering from a relationship, or leaving narcissistic abuse behind. My background in family therapy includes parent coaching, supporting caregiver burnout, adolescent therapy and play therapy. My intention is for you to feel supported, validated, and inspired to grow, while making space for deep self-exploration. My approach is relational and trauma-informed, grounded in Health at Every Size and social justice. I integrate IFS, narrative therapy, and somatic experiencing to support meaningful, lasting change. I believe therapy is a tool to help you feel free, empowered, and fully yourself.
Your first session is simply the beginning. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out. We’ll start by getting to know each other and talking about what is bringing you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences, your strengths, and what feels most important to focus on right now. Therapy is a collaborative process, and this first meeting is about taking those initial steps together. We’ll begin identifying your goals and what meaningful change would look like for you. Just as importantly, this is your opportunity to see how it feels to work with me. A strong therapeutic fit matters, and I want you to feel comfortable, supported, and confident moving forward!
I provide counseling to teens and adults, who struggle with anxiety, depression, stressful relationships and identity, sexuality, and gender questioning. I’m passionate about helping people learn more about themselves. I help people identify who they are and what’s important to them. All while helping them learn how to fully accept themselves and increase their self compassion.

Do you feel stuck? Perhaps you recognize that something in your life isn't working and you've tried to fix things or make changes, but it didn't work and you find yourself feeling exhausted, defeated, confused, helpless, hopeless, or overwhelmed. Or maybe you have no idea where to start. You've landed in the right place because getting unstuck is my specialty. Reaching out for help is a courageous choice. I am honored to provide a safe space for clients to pause, reflect, process, learn, and grow. My goal is to empower clients to live fully and embrace a lifestyle that sustains a sense of well-being. I am licensed in NY, PA, IL, and NH, which allows me to support students year-round who may live in one state and go to school in another, or who plan to move to another state following graduation. Transitions are often a time of increased stress so finding a therapist who can be present *virtually* throughout is important. In addition to our work together in session, I make use of an app that is free to my clients to provide resources between sessions and collect data to create a personalized approach to treatment.
My passion for psychiatry began during my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, where I graduated with a degree in neuroscience and a GPA of 3.9. Due to my academic excellence, I was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, America’s oldest honor society, which includes 17 former U.S. Presidents and 40 Supreme Court Justices among its members. Before pursuing a career in medicine, I taught Algebra to middle school students in New York City as a public school educator. I was initially hired to help students pass their state exams, and to my surprise, they succeeded. This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of education. At Rush University, I hold three administrative roles: Executive Chief Resident, Education Chief, and Internal Moonlighting Coordinator. As Executive Chief Resident, I organize two literature review series: Rush’s Journal Club and a program called “Controversies in Psychopharmacology,” which explores new and controversial topics in psychiatry. Together with faculty, I also coordinate the PRITE exam review series. As an enthusiastic test-taker, I achieved scores above the 90th percentile in neuroscience on the 2020 and 2021 exams. Additionally, I oversee the Balint group, a support group aimed at addressing physician burnout and promoting wellness among residents. In my role as Education Chief, I manage Rush’s Teaching Clinic, designed to support medical students. I regularly lecture to both medical students and residents. I have collaborated with my co-residents to create a personalized tutoring series for at-risk medical students focused on helping them pass their NBME shelf exams; I’m proud to report that 100% of my mentees have successfully passed. Furthermore, I co-lead a neuroscience curriculum aligned with materials from the National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative (NNCI) and deliver lectures to my co-residents. As the Internal Moonlighting Coordinator at Rush, I ensure continuous and effective psychiatric care in the emergency department. I have logged over 1,000 hours in the emergency room, gaining experience in stabilizing high-acuity situations such as psychosis, mania, and agitation. This role has also provided me with valuable experience in accounting and bookkeeping, allowing me to work closely with the payroll department. I am actively involved in the Illinois Psychiatric Society, the Illinois branch of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). I serve on several committees, including the anti-racism committee and the government affairs committee. My interests lie in interventional psychiatry, and I currently work at Rush’s TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and ketamine clinic. In October, I collaborated with IV Chicago Solutions and shadowed Dr. Eugene Lipov, a pioneer of the stellate ganglion block procedure for treating PTSD. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I work with individuals and couples across the adult lifespan seeking a safe and inclusive environment to develop a greater understanding of themselves, their relationships, and paths to move forward in life. I focus my clinical practice on working with adults who have experienced and survived a myriad of traumatic events such as childhood abuse, interpersonal violence, immigration trauma, and racial and LGBTQ-related discrimination – as well as those experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship concerns, insomnia and those experiencing significant life change (i.e., moving, divorce, new parents, college/graduation, etc.). As a non-binary person, I strive to create a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for all clients no matter their racial, cultural, or gender and sexual identity. Throughout my training, I have focused my work in college counseling centers, working with young adults as well as non-traditional students, returning adult learners, first-generation college students, and international student populations and in community mental health focused on immigrant, refugee, and asylum seekers.
