Changes occurring over and again, new and old demands, wondering about performance, confusion about life goals, hopes about opportunities, and the ever complicated relationships, are all topics of our inordinate life stories. How do we find ways to understand our endeavors and translate them to others? How do we know what success looks like for us? Therapy offers the space for self-reflection, for identifying improved adaptive attitudes, and generally, can aid our personal growth. You are welcome to try out the way I facilitate these processes.
While specializing in men's issues, anger management, and adolescent and college student populations, I also work individually with women dealing with anxiety, loss and relationship issues. With an emphasis on strengthening relationships and self-esteem, therapy is designed for people searching for a more balanced approach to working through change. I offer family therapy, have extended success connecting with male and female adolescence whose behaviors have been labeled oppositional or explosive, and work with parents/families who struggle with how to relate and communicate with their teenager and each other. Men's Issues/male and female adolescent populations and families work through challenges they have in expressing emotion, managing anger, and interpersonal communication. Men become comfortable with and learn the benefits of therapy rather than holding on to old stereotypes. I offer Sports Psychology consulting for men/women/teens. Client's gain insight, increase self-awareness, and find solutions. They learn coping skills, control emotional impulses, and learn relaxation from a therapist who has spent 15 years studying and practicing meditation. Clients can formulate plans that foster self-care, exercise and nutrition to strengthen defenses and manage negative emotions.
I enjoy working with students during this time of transition in their lives. Away from home, students must learn to structure their time to study and embark on a social life. This is a good opportunity to develop self-awareness and discover which relationships are best for them. Most of my clients are creative: writers, musicians, actors, artists, photography, and film. Many are introverts and/or highly sensitive people. I help them embrace their introversion as a gift rather than a liability.
My practice focuses on those who are coping with relationship issues, anxiety and/or depression. I have a relational approach that is strength based and supports people in building skills to cope with everyday issues as well as past trauma or difficulties. I have experience working with international students who are working to balance the adjustment to the US, school and being away from the familiar people and environments from which they came. I can work with you in person or online, or a combination of the two.
Welcome! College years can be challenging, but should also be a fun and exciting time of growth and adventure. If you are overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, down, stressed-out, lost, or alone, pursuing therapy is one of the best choices you can make. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with almost 25 years of experience in the mental health field. My specialty and passion is helping people reclaim their lives from anxiety. I also work daily with a range of other mental health struggles and life challenges, including grief and loss, trauma, ADHD, depression, academic stress, substance use, and relationships. If you are wondering whether now is the right time for therapy, the answer is probably “yes.” You start to feel different when you do things differently. I can offer you a non-judgmental, creative space with fresh ideas and hope for your future. You can show up just as you are and I will listen whole-heartedly to your story. We will work together to change old habits, find new ways of thinking, confront your fears, learn powerful skills, build meaningful connections, and take action. If you are seeking an experienced therapist with a warm, relaxed style, you will likely feel at ease with me.
My top priority in providing care is to ensure a comfortable, safe, and open environment. I build this work around a strong therapeutic relationship, because trust and rapport are what make meaningful progress possible. From the beginning, I collaborate with patients to understand their goals and shape treatment together, choosing evidence-based approaches that adapt to them. During my graduate internship at a therapeutic school, I worked closely with children ages 10–14 who were navigating emotional and behavioral challenges. Following graduation, I began my post-graduate work in an outpatient mental health setting, where I practiced alongside an experienced, wise team of clinicians. In that role, I supported a wonderful and diverse clientele with a range of concerns while honing my ability to thoughtfully accommodate different clinical needs. Across settings, I’ve worked with depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. My experience includes helping individuals from age 9 through senior adulthood, including children with diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder. At this point in time, I’m especially focused on supporting college-aged young adults and older adults. My clinical work integrates evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy. Rather than leading with technique, I focus first on understanding a person before introducing modalities that support their specific needs.
Are you feeling stuck, struggling to cope with anxiety or depression? I can help! Together we will work towards aleviating sadness and loneliness, developing better coping strategies to manage stress, and setting achievable goals to make long lasting changes. I provide a warm and empathic environment that focuses on individual strengths to foster a sense of meaning in life. I help clients with issues related to: academic and job-related struggles; depression; anxiety; relationship problems; immigration and acculturation stress; trauma; and grief and loss. I use psychodynamic (insight-oriented), mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral approaches in order to foster transformitive change. Originally from Argentina, I am bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural and work with clients in either language. I enjoy working with people from a wide range of cultural, international, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities.
Welcome, First of all, be sure to take a deep breath and know that whether you choose to work with me or someone else you will get through this process! Choosing a therapist is not an easy task. I look forward to setting up a time to speak with you after you review my clinical background and training. Most college students appreciate the sense of humor and warmth that I bring to our discussions. They feel connected and engaged with a real person who cares about them in a personal way. They also appreciate my ability to help them identify practical solutions to the academic and emotional issues that they voice in our meetings. My wide range of clinical experiences allow me to help my patients move through treatment with a sense of energy and a feeling that their strengths are both appreciated and enhanced throughout the treatment process. This close relationship allows them to open-up and identify a pathway forward in their life that is meaningful, clear, and solid. To provide you with some background I would note that I am a licensed psychologist who has worked with college students for years. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, college transition stress, social skill challenges and anger management. I also help students who need specialized support in managing the organizational, writing, or academic demands of a college environment. I meet with students in individual, group, and family therapy sessions depending on the need. I also support students and their families in situations where they are stepping down from a stay in an in-patient hospital or are trying to avoid a hospitalization. My approach to treatment is holistic in that I use a range of time-tested treatment interventions to identify and address your needs in a personalized manner. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about my approach to treatment in our first phone contact. I maintain an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School and serve as a Clinical Associate at McLean Hospital, the medical school's largest teaching psychiatric hospital. I have supervised numerous psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists over the course of my career and as such I am the Director of Training in my group practice, and I am currently training five psychology graduate students. Please feel free to email me at Perna@hms.harvard.edu or call me at 617-431-1441 in order to answer your questions. Good luck with your journey! https://www.copernican.solutions/david-a-perna-phd.html
Our experiences in this world, often based on identities or trauma, can leave us feeling stressed and uncertain. It's confusing to have your worries get in the way of making the connections with people that you long for; or to be so convinced you will fail that it's hard to take the first step in doing the next thing you want to do; or to be suddenly totally overwhelmed in the middle of this exciting new experience you'd been waiting for. Sometimes people need some help slowing down, reconnecting with themselves, and finding new ways to respond so that they can move forward with hope, self-compassion, and empowerment. I have spent many years working in college mental health, helping students from all identities and backgrounds navigate the growth and challenge of the college experience. My approach is collaborative. Together we figure out what's getting in the way for you. I'll be with you in the hard moments, naming and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences so that you can find ways to respond to them that are helpful. Increased connection with your body is key. Let's also celebrate the wins, big and small, along the way. Finding a therapist that is a good fit is so important—if you're not comfortable enough to tell your therapist what's really going on, therapy won't work. Let's find a time to connect to see if I would be a good fit for you in your next step.
I believe that my clients would say that my style of relating is supportive, compassionately challenging and fosters understanding and healing. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where we focus on process, growth and self-awareness. I work with adults and adolescents on issues related to healing trauma, family dynamics, relational issues, sexual health and wellbeing, stressors due to major life changes and navigating life’s array of challenges and general feelings of, “I’m just not feeling like myself lately.”

Are you a young adult who struggles to maintain friendships or succeed at work or school? I specialize in the treatment of children, adolescents and young adults who experience anxiety, social difficulties, behavioral issues, ADHD, or low self-esteem. Specifically, I have expertise working with neurodivergent clients. I enjoy helping clients experience greater success at school, home, work, or with peers--ultimately reducing anxiety and improving self-esteem. I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, behavioral strategies, and a strengths-based approach. My focus is on creating a strong, foundational relationship with clients. I value client feedback, and respect the unique needs and strengths of each person I work with. My goal is to encourage and empower individuals to reach their greatest potential.
HEAL Psychotherapy Group is a growing mental health practice dedicated to providing thoughtful, high-quality care for young adults. We specialize in working with college students, graduate students, and early-career professionals as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of emerging adulthood. Whether you are adjusting to a new environment, managing academic or professional stress, exploring your identity, navigating relationships, or coping with difficult life experiences, our therapists provide a supportive space for growth and healing. Our practice has particular expertise in trauma treatment. Our clinicians have advanced training in evidence-based and insight-oriented approaches to trauma care and understand the many ways trauma can affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, self-esteem, academic functioning, and physical health. We take a compassionate, collaborative approach that helps clients better understand their experiences while building practical tools for healing and resilience. We recognize that not everyone who seeks therapy identifies as a trauma survivor. We also welcome individuals who are interested in exploring how past experiences, family relationships, or prior challenges may be influencing their present lives. We work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, identity development, stress management, grief and loss, self-esteem concerns, and life transitions. Founded by a psychologist with extensive experience as a clinician in university counseling centers, HEAL Psychotherapy Group is deeply familiar with the developmental, academic, and social pressures facing today's young adults. Our goal is to provide care that is warm, relational, evidence-informed, and tailored to each individual's unique needs and goals. We offer both in-person and telehealth therapy options. We have an office location in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with telehealth services available throughout Massachusetts.

We work to develop the path and mindset to help you be more resilient and deal with life's inevitable challenges. Therapy serves as an opportunity to be curious – to explore the patterns and narratives we carry, repeat, and, at times, feel bound by. Through gentle curiosity, we create space for healing and give ourselves the opportunity to blossom into more authentic versions of ourselves. My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic and attachment theories. With compassion and warmth, I listen closely to the unique story of your life, honoring the experiences that have shaped how you relate to yourself and others. Together, we will untangle these experiences and cultivate hope that life can improve in ways that feel deeply meaningful. I offer individual psychotherapy to adults and older adults with a variety of presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, grief, bereavement, trauma, relational difficulties, and identity exploration. Importantly, I strive to remain mindful of the nuanced ways our identities shape our experiences and influence how we move through the world. I have specialized training in geropsychology and am passionate about helping adults navigate the complexities of aging, later-in-life transitions, caregiving, existential concerns, and ageism. My experience also includes working in college counseling centers, memory disorder clinics, community mental health, and with veterans.
I am a therapist with over 30 years of experience working with teens and adults at all stages in life. My professional goal is to develop the highest quality relationship with each client, while using a variety of specific techniques that are tailored to each person's needs. I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for you to be able to talk about difficult feelings and experiences, and come up with effective coping skills. Clients who come seeking help from me generally feel stuck in some area of their lives. They often feel depressed and anxious. They may be struggling at school, having problems in relationships, and may be trying to discover their place in the world. Through insight, thoughtful exploration, and a collaborative effort to identify and change problematic behaviors, my clients find relief from their symptoms, grow beyond the limitations they have felt restricted by, and experience a stronger sense of self in the world.
Hi, my name is Jake and I’m a therapist in Brookline. I meet with clients in person and online. I enjoy working with adults of all ages and particularly young adults and people early in their careers who are searching for more meaning, fulfillment and balance in life. Regardless of the main issue that brings individuals into therapy, many of my clients struggle with some type of self-defeating narrative, or what I call, an unworkable story about themselves or about some aspect of their lives. I enjoy helping people uncover these unworkable patterns and develop more effective ways of viewing themselves and their lives. Working with me involves exploring what gets in the way of more openness, awareness and engagement with life, and then practicing increasing these ways of being through exercises (such as mindfulness approaches), use of metaphor to shift perspective and other behavioral moves. It’s important to me that I meet every client where he or she is at and work collaboratively toward creating the life you want for yourself. I look forward to connecting with you!
Life has a way of surprising us — a loss, a betrayal, a diagnosis, or a path that no longer feels right. In these moments, it’s easy to feel unsteady or unsure how to move forward. I specialize in working with college students and young adults who are navigating these turning points and trying to find their footing again. With over 15 years of experience in counseling settings at Harvard and MIT, I offer a warm, supportive space where you can slow down, reflect, and feel understood. My approach is both insight-oriented and practical — helping you make sense of your experiences while building tools for meaningful change. Many of my clients are high-achieving individuals — often children of immigrants, or professionals in higher education and STEM — who appear put-together on the outside while quietly carrying stress, grief, or a sense that something isn’t quite working. If that sounds like you, I can help. Let's get started!
I work with adults of all ages, but have a focus in treating those in their twenties and thirties. Looking for clients motivated to increase their ability to manage stress, anger, anxiety, depression, or past trauma and gain increased autonomy over their lives. Through exploring relationships of all kinds, we can begin to notice patterns in ourselves and gain more insight in how to approach the world with a growth mindset. I am a certified somatic attachment practitioner and use this to support the processing of these difficult topics. We utilize Somatic Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), solutions focused therapy, Parts Work, psychodynamic theories, mindfulness practices, and many others. The goal is to create a stronger connection between your mind and body for increased regulation in the face of stressors or difficult moments. The nuances of your personal experience are important and together we can discover new insights, increase clarity, and explore tools to support your needs. I offer free 15 minute consultation calls to make sure availability and cost works for you and to explore whether I will be the best fit to support your growth.
