Hi, I'm Sandy! I'm glad you took the first step towards prioritizing your mental health & wellness. Now what? Here's what you can expect from our first session. I prioritize creating a warm & empathetic environment where you feel truly heard and understood. My person-centered approach means that our work together revolves around your journey, ensuring that you feel empowered to make meaningful changes. I'm here to support you in exploring and navigating life's challenges. Together, we'll set achievable goals and work towards outcomes that enhance your overall well-being. Expect a therapeutic partnership where your voice matters!
It can be hard to know when to call a therapist. Have you found yourself thinking the below thoughts? -There is something wrong with me -I don't understand the way I am feeling -No one understands me -This isn't supposed to be the way my college experience is -I just can't handle these feelings of sadness/stress/anxiety If so, it sounds like you could benefit from talking to a therapist. Life is hard and therapy can be an effective tool to help navigate life's difficulties. As your therapist, I will sit with you and listen as you share your struggles and we will make sense of things. Together, we can figure out how you are unintentionally "getting in your own way" and also recognize the ways you are helping yourself thrive (but perhaps hadn't even realized it!). I'll teach you about your emotions, the mind-body connection and the relationship between thoughts-feelings-behaviors. This information will help you learn new and better ways to help yourself when you are feeling overwhelmed with your emotions and life challenges. Sounds like this could be helpful? Send me an email, we can schedule a 15 min phone call where I can answer your questions and we can get started.
I am passionate about supporting college students in managing experiences of anxiety, depression, identity development, ADHD/neurodivergence, self-esteem, body image, multicultural identity, relationship challenges, life transitions, and stress. I am deeply compassionate and supportive in my approach, dedicated to empowering and joining individuals in navigating their unique life experiences. I foster a safe, accepting, and nonjudgmental space for us to explore and make sense of what might be getting in your way and how to move through these challenges at your own pace toward a place of healing. By slowing down and uncovering what has and has not been working, getting in touch with your feelings, and building various skills to manage difficult experiences, you can shift from coping with life toward thriving and flourishing into your authentic self.
Being a university student can be both an exciting and extremely overwhelming time in your life. Your college years are full of transitions which often come with a sense of uncertainty. Seeking support in therapy can be the first step to re-gaining a sense of control and a hope in the possibility of change. My clients often face challenges related to life transitions in employment, relationships, family life, and education. They also seek support in navigating the daily struggles of life, from the stress of media consumption to confronting the debilitating impacts of oppressive systems. I also work with clients facing existential dread, including death anxiety, as well as those dealing with illness, end-of-life issues, and bereavement, whether personally or supporting a loved one. My therapeutic style is open, empathic, and down to earth. Building a safe and trusting connection is a crucial piece of the therapy process. My approach is existential and highly relational, highlighting the importance of both the right "fit" in the therapeutic relationship and exploring how you fit into the world. Through my years of practice, I've seen how self-compassion, deep connection, and finding a sense of purpose contribute significantly to one's well-being. I will support you in your search for greater meaning, emotional awareness and empowerment in a world that can be overwhelming and isolating.
*When emailing me, please specify what you are seeking therapy for!* My practice is rooted in the belief that everyone is worthy of health, recovery, and a positive relationship with food and their body, no matter their size. My goal is to create a space that feels safe and supportive enough to make positive change happen. I specialize in eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, OSFED), self-esteem challenges, anxiety disorders, depression, and self-harming behaviors in young adults (18+) and adults and am currently the assistant clinical director of a nationally recognized eating disorder outpatient program. I utilize evidence-based treatment approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). My approach is strengths-based and person-centered, with the belief that therapy is not "one size fits all." We will work as a team to figure out what is most supportive and effective for you. Recovering from disordered eating in a society that encourages it IS possible. If you are ready to take the next step in your recovery, I would love to schedule a phone consultation with you to see if we would be a good fit.

I am committed to raising awareness and access to spaces of healing to communities of color. I will offer you a culturally-responsive, collaborative space to share your story. I aim to apply an anti-oppressive framework at the heart of my practice; and care deeply about the impact of intergenerational and race-based trauma. I value authenticity, transparency, and humor in our journey! The complexities of juggling responsibilities as a student, employee, caregiver, etc., can be super exhausting and I'm here to tell you that I see you! Therapy can be a great tool, regardless of what you might be going through in life. I understand that each person's story is unique and, therefore, so is his or her therapeutic experience. I am a psychotherapist and coach who will work with you to develop strategies for overcoming barriers in your life. I believe it's very important to have a good connection and rapport with your therapist. Due to this, I work to create a comfortable and safe environment to allow for progress and growth. I have nearly a decade of clinical experience working with clients in a variety of clinical settings. I have successfully treated individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship problems, work/school stress, and difficult life transitions.
Helping you feel comfortable and seen is my priority. I believe that true growth cannot happen outside of a warm, safe relationship. There is so much happening for college students and having a judgement-free space to slow down, unpack thoughts/feelings and gain clarity/awareness can lead to immense empowerment and growth for young adults. I work at my client's pace and help them feel seen/validated in their experience while collaboratively addressing the difficulties together. Celebrating any feeling of success, no matter how small, is crucial! Therapy is not all about the hard things, but also about noticing the good when we can so easily be weighed down by the struggles. Thanks for considering me and I look forward to connecting with you!
I like getting to know my clients and their primary reason for seeking therapy. Clients should feel comfortable, welcome a challenge, but also feel that I can be a vessel for non-judgment. I am warm, open-minded, and direct. The goal is to have clients feel safe enough to explore their struggles so we can build a plan together for your optimal mental health and well-being.
