Welcome. I am Dr. Christiane Speed. I am a licensed psychologist in CA and NC. I have been practicing for over 12 years and possess extensive experience working with college and university students both in CA and NC. I enjoy helping students regain a sense of control and empowerment over their life struggles so that they can engage and enjoy life more fully and create a healthier academic and personal life balance. A major part of therapy involves helping students adapt to student life, balance school and personal life. Students come to see for help with how to communicate effectively in relationships, and to learn practical coping skills for stress and time management. We work on identifying and managing procrastination, increasing motivation and goal directed activities and setting very clear, realistic, achievable goals and having a growth mindset. Other areas of work might include managing and resolving interpersonal problems, setting healthy emotional, physical and personal boundaries, improving family, friendship and romantic relationships and overall functioning. My areas of specialty include anxiety (including generalized anxiety disorder, health anxiety, imposter syndrome, OCD, social anxiety, specific phobia), complex stress and life struggles, depression , grief and loss. I take a flexible and individualized approach to treatment and integrate effective techniques from different approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Solution-Focused Therapy. To gain a more holistic understanding, treatment also addresses how cultural, family, medical, physical, social, societal and spiritual factors interact with each client's unique life struggles. My main focus is getting to know each of my client's unique life experiences, difficulties and needs so that I can tailor therapy to best suit what will work best for that client. If you feel that we would be a good fit working together, please contact me to schedule an appointment. I look forward to the potential of working with you.

I'm Jess, and I am a queer neurodivergent therapist who practices LGBTQIA+ friendly, Autistic and ADHD affirming, and trauma-informed therapy. It's my passion to support folks who are feeling the weight of shame and self-doubt, questioning where they belong/who they are, and struggling in their relationship with food and body. I know how painful it can be to feel out of place and like you're trying to fit into a mold that just doesn't feel right for you, so it's important to me to cultivate a space where you can feel like it's celebrated to be you. In our space, there is no such thing as being "too sensitive" or "too much." I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, so my work is grounded in developing compassionate, trusting relationships with clients. I prioritize being mindful of how my privileged identities, including being white and thin, impact the therapeutic relationship. I am committed to engaging in ongoing anti-oppressive learning outside of sessions. In therapy, I incorporate somatic and relational approaches, including Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR. I strongly believe in client autonomy and respect for the different ways we all adapt to find safety and connection. If you long for more peace in your relationship with yourself and others, please reach out!

My clients often struggle with challenges in their relationship’s whether they be romantic, friendly, or family relationships. My clients worry about abandonment, often finding issues from their past show up and negatively affect their relationships. Some feel they may be in a codependent relationship but not sure. Our work together will help you understand how past pain affects present relationships. Then we will work at unpacking that baggage, organize it, and put it away in a safe place. Although it may never truly go away, you can confront it in a way that allows you to move forward and find happiness. My goal is to get to know you and the issues that bring you to counseling. We will work together to help you establish a baseline of calm, good self-care, and coping skills. This will help you feel safe and secure before we dive into unpacking the things that are causing you pain. Together we will set goals, to help you realize all of your unique strengths, create healthy boundaries, and self-esteem to build a happier, healthier life, I look forward to working with you.

Whatever brought you to consider therapy, know that you are not alone. Many of us struggle to manage intense emotions, connect deeply with others, meet our goals, live up to our expectations, accept ourselves, or find meaning in life. In a safe and supportive space you are free to express yourself openly, honestly, and authentically, and together we can work to discover the ways you would like your life to be different. The approach we take to implement those changes will be guided by your personality, culture, and needs. Through developing mental, emotional, and physical self-awareness, my clients build skills that enable them to handle painful thoughts, emotions, and experiences in more adaptive ways, They steadily shedding ways of relating with the world and themselves that are harmful, unsustainable, or no longer serving them, creating space to bring their values to life. I find mindfulness and nurturing the mind-body connection to be powerful tools in accessing our natural healing abilities. Overcoming a number of my own mental health struggles in the past has yielded a wealth of compassion and empathy for the clients I see today, as well as faith in their abilities to heal, grow, and build a life worth living.

Maybe you feel like you don’t quite belong anywhere or struggle to trust your own worth. Perhaps you’re carrying the weight of systemic oppression, intergenerational trauma, or the pressure to fit into a world that wasn’t built with you in mind. You want to heal, to feel at home in yourself, and to build a life that feels authentic and meaningful. I’m here to hold a space where you can show up fully and be met with care, empathy, and non-judgment. I love working with LGBTQ+ & BIPoC folks and folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers from a strengths-based, neurodiversity affirming perspective. My therapeutic approach is guided by a commitment to fostering dignity, resilience, and empowerment, with a focus on practical strategies for personal growth and self-care. I am EMDR trained and use this as well as other therapeutic approaches to support clients in healing from trauma and cultivating a sense of personal sovereignty. As a mixed race-Black, trans-masculine, and nonbinary practitioner, I understand the importance of being seen and affirmed. I approach therapy with a commitment to creating a secure, affirming space where clients can unfold into their most authentic selves. Life presents each of us with an ever-evolving host of changes and transitions. This sense of change and transition can be even more pronounced for people encountering new opportunities along with new challenges. I work to support people in their processes of change, growth, exploration, and self-understanding, using an approach to therapy that is flexible, empathetic, and collaborative. My aim is to provide structure, consistency, and compassion that helps clients make decisions about how to proceed in different areas of life. This approach embraces complexity, allowing clients the freedom to explore while still maintaining a focus on their treatment goals. Whether someone seeks therapy for anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, stronger emotion regulation, coping skills, or anything else, I take an approach tailored specifically to each client's needs.

I can help you change unhelpful behaviors and thought patterns such as catastrophizing and self criticism, develop resilience and self care to manage stress, and create healthier and happier relationships. I take a holistic, mind body approach which includes developing lifestyle habits to help you feel your best emotionally and physically. I recognize that most of the work of therapy happens outside of our sessions so I frequently make suggestions for things to work on in between our meetings. My approach is influenced by CBT, Attachment Theory, Positive Psychology, Psychodynamic Theory, and Mindfulness, and trauma informed. I enjoy working with students and professionals and welcome clients of all background and identities into my practice. You can visit my website for more information.

I view therapy as a unique, dynamic space between two people where an alliance is being formed. Clients often come my way frustrated by not being heard by health providers or mental health therapists who lack empathy, understanding, or who come off as judgmental. My job is to meet you in a place where you can feel deeply seen, heard, and understood.
