It can be a difficult decision or intimidating process to begin or reengage in counseling, so I am glad you are visiting my profile for the chance to learn more about me. If you are feeling stuck in your life and looking for some insight, this is a very relatable experience. I often see clients who are tired of experiencing stress, confusion, anxiety or panic, depression, lack of enjoyment, etc. These experiences may come as a result of painful or traumatic life experiences, fear of the unknown, oppressive social messages or expectations, major life changes, loss and grief... As someone who has participated in counseling as a client, I am committed to a relationship with you built on mutual trust and compassion. My goal is to help guide your ability to tap into your inner wisdom, trust yourself, and release stuck emotions, so you can feel liberated from the things that have gotten in your way or weighed you down. My greatest wish for all human beings is to experience freedom and joy. I know that taking the first step to reach out can be the hardest part, so I hope to provide reassurance and make your efforts feel worthwhile. I'll look forward to hearing from you to see if we would like to work together.

I believe counseling is about gaining a complete understanding of oneself to connect the dots of why we think, behave, and feel the way we do. Therapy can help one to see the connection and learn skills to change patterns of self-destructive behavior into life fulfilling achievements. Therapy is a safe space to explore the person you are and look at the negative experiences in your life to start the healing process. In therapy we can work together to understand yourself more fully and work towards the goals you determine. Life is not easy and seeking helping can be the first step to making lasting change towards the future you envision. I desire to help you gain the insight into you so that your future is brighter, and you are stronger in knowing who you are. Yes, we all think we have flaws but sometimes what we think are flaws are strengths hidden by biases and once we understand them a whole new perspective is unveiled. The first step is the hardest but after that I will be there for you each step of the process.

If you are feeling stuck or conflicted, or would like to go deeper to process what you know is holding you back from living fully, I may be able to help. We can explore all of your particularity and weirdness, including things you love and find frustrating or shameful about yourself. All of your identities are welcome in therapy, even those that seem to conflict. Many of the people I am privileged to work with are exploring LGBTQ identities and/or religious faith or spirituality.

I believe that mental health is a journey of piecing together multiple working parts, and I hope to be a part of that process with you. About Me I hold a PhD in Social Work and I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving the states of Georgia and Maryland. I received my PhD from the University of Alabama, my MSW from the University of Georgia, and BA from The University of Alabama. I have multiple years of clinical experience among various populations (children, teens, families, and young adults), various backgrounds, and in numerous settings (residential, inpatient, outpatient, private practice). I also currently hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Social Work. I am someone with whom people generally feel at ease and comfortable, which is an important part of what makes therapy work. My initial goal within the therapeutic relationship is to provide you with just that: a positive, safe, and comfortable place, where you feel at ease to talk about things that matter to you. Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my pets, finding challenging hikes, cooking/baking, going to the beach/finding water, gardening, exploring the city, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy picking up new creative projects and DIYs! Who I Help & What I Help With Who I Can Help 1. Children (6-12) 2. Teens (13-17) 3. Emerging & Young Adults (18-29) 4. Adult Couples What I Can Help With 1. Relationship issues or losing a relationship 2. Adjusting to and navigating life transitions 3. Improving unhealthy/disruptive habits and behaviors 4. Feeling sad or depressed 5. Trauma and loss 6. Feeling overwhelmed or anxious 7. Feeling alone or disconnected from others 8. Experiencing stress at work, school, or home 9. Conflict resolution and problem-solving 10. Learning to value and love yourself My Approach Types of Therapies It’s not uncommon for someone to enter therapy a bit nervous and with no clear sense of where to start – they simply want things to change for the better and to feel like themselves again. You are the expert of your own experience, but it’s easy to lose your way and feel lost when in distress. I will meet you wherever you are and help you piece things back to a sense of what normal feels like for you. The best approach is one that works for you, so I may draw on several different approaches to therapy, all of which have been shown by research to help individuals reduce stress, gain clarity, and make changes in their lives. They include but are not limited to: 1. Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) 2. Psychodynamic Therapy 3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) 4. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) 5. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) 6. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) 7. Person-Centered Therapy 8. Narrative Therapy 9. Culturally Sensitive Therapy Services & Payment Things to Know First 1. At this time, all sessions will be remote/virtual and take place through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. 2. You may choose the mode with which you are most comfortable (i.e., video, phone). 3. Virtual sessions are a great option for accessibility and flexibility, but please be sure to first, consider whether this is the most appropriate option for you at this time. How to Get Started Ready to get started? For scheduling of any kind (free consult, intake, regular sessions, etc.), just head to the “Contact Me” tab or the “book appointment” link at the bottom of every page of this website. You can schedule your first appointment on your own and whenever you’re ready with no initial contact required. Please note that I am committed to your privacy. Therefore, please do not include confidential or private information if you choose to email or call. Further and more detailed information will be exchanged through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. I look forward to speaking with you! Visits with me typically involve the following types of sessions: Intake Session: Assessment & Planning (60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $200) It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist, and while you have the option of beginning with a phone consultation or intake session, the first few sessions serve to help you and me decide whether the therapeutic relationship will be the best fit. The intake also serves as an Assessment and Planning phase, which is focused on learning more in depth about you, your history, and what brings you to therapy. This phase also allows me to begin putting together a plan for future sessions if you are comfortable with moving forward. All follow up sessions after the initial intake session will be considered a regular therapy session. Regular Individual Therapy Session (30-60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $90-$180) Following the Assessment and Planning phase, we’ll decide when and how often to meet. Session time frames depend on your treatment needs and personal circumstances and are guided by the plan we develop together. Please note that 30-minute sessions are private pay only. These sessions may work well for children and adolescents, day-to-day check-ins, more solution-focused sessions, quicker access to therapy, etc. Regular Family Therapy Session With Client (30 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $108, Private Pay Only) When needed, family sessions provide an opportunity to strengthen communication, address relational dynamics, and support your child or adolescent’s progress in treatment. These sessions may include parents/guardians, caregivers, and/or siblings depending on the goals we establish together. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Brief Family Therapy Session Without Client (15 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $54, Private Pay Only) These brief check-ins offer a dedicated space for parents and caregivers to share observations, ask questions, and stay connected to their child’s therapeutic progress without the client present. They are not a replacement for regular family sessions but rather, serve as a lightweight touchpoint between sessions when needed. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Couples Therapy Session (60 minutes; $216, Private Pay Only) Couples therapy sessions provide a structured space to address relational concerns, improve communication, and work toward shared goals within the relationship. These sessions are designed to support both partners in understanding relational patterns, navigating conflict more effectively, and building a stronger foundation for daily functioning together. Please note that all couples therapy sessions of any length are private pay only. Payment Options In-Network Insurance & Third-Party Payers I currently accept the following insurance plans in Georgia: 1. Aetna 2. Cigna/Evernorth 3. United Healthcare/UBH/Optum 4. Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans I currently accept the following insurance plans in Maryland: 1. Aetna 2. Cigna/Evernorth 3. United Healthcare/UBH/Optum 4. Medicaid/Carelon Behavioral Health 5. Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans This means that if you are enrolled in any of these plans (or potentially any of their subsidiaries), your out-of-pocket expense is limited to your deductible and copay/coinsurance. While I can assist in determining what these costs will be, it may be helpful to ask your insurance provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 2. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *I am currently working to become a provider in network with Anthem as well as any applicable subsidiaries under Anthem in the state of Georgia. I am also currently working to become a provider in network with CareFirst as well as any applicable subsidiaries under CareFirst in the state of Maryland. Private Pay & Out-of-Network Reimbursement I also accept private pay, and if you have another insurance provider, you may also have out-of-network benefits. With this option, your insurance benefits may reimburse the majority of the cost of therapy. With both private pay and out-of-network reimbursement, you will be provided with automatic invoices, statements, and superbills for any needed reimbursements later from your insurance provider. I recommend calling your insurance provider to learn more about how reimbursement works. It may be helpful to ask your provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. Does my plan provide out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health services? 2. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 3. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *Lack of insurance coverage, privacy concerns, flexibility, and quicker access to care are only a few of the reasons why one might choose this option. Cancellation Policy All clients are required to have an active credit/debit card on file at the time of scheduling an appointment. For appointment no-shows, last-minute cancellations, or inactive insurance, you will be charged in full regardless of reason. This is necessary, as a time commitment is made and held exclusively for you. You may still apply this fee to future appointments. Contact Me Ready to get started? For scheduling of any kind (free consult, intake, regular sessions, etc.), just head to the “Contact Me” tab or the “book appointment” link at the bottom of every page of this website. You can schedule your first appointment on your own and whenever you’re ready with no initial contact required. Please note that I am committed to your privacy. Living with OCD or anxiety can be exhausting. The constant doubt, intrusive thoughts, avoidance and compulsions can make everyday life feel overwhelming— like it's running your life instead of you. I specialize in helping adults break free from OCD, perfectionism, and anxiety disorders. I understand how isolating these struggles can feel, and I provide a compassionate, collaborative space where you can feel understood while learning practical tools to understand anxiety and move toward what truly matters to you. If you're struggling with OCD, we’ll use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Together we'll build a concrete treatment plan, and with steady support, you’ll gradually face fears, and reduce compulsions, building confidence and learning that you can handle uncertainty without relying on rituals. To address anxiety and perfectionism, I integrate CBT and ACT techniques, so you can develop a healthier mindset and respond to difficult thoughts with more flexibility and self-compassion. Therapy is active and goal-oriented, but always grounded in warmth and respect. I’d love to support you in this process.

Wherever you have been, however you have arrived, I’m glad you are here. To me, therapy is about taking time and space to listen to our bodies and emotions, with the hope of allowing us to reconnect with our inherent wisdom. We don't lose touch with this wisdom by accident. Trauma, unhealed wounds, and oppression separate us from our wisdom and intuition, and impact our ability to access all parts of ourselves. You and your body carry so much, from the grief and resilience of those who came before you, to the stress of everyday life. You were never meant to carry it all on your own. I approach therapy from a relational and attachment-based framework, with strong influences from intersectional feminism, trauma-informed care and somatic practices. I also believe that our individual health can't be disentangled from our collective wellbeing and therapy is only one of many paths towards healing.

I am passionate about supporting others in their emotional, social, and academic growth. As someone who has always been drawn to helping others, I find immense fulfillment in guiding individuals through challenges and helping them realize their full potential. As a school counselor, I have always believed that every person deserves the opportunity to succeed, not only academically but emotionally and socially as well. During my academic journey, I became fascinated by the ways in which emotional health impacts learning and overall development. This led me to pursue a degree in Human Development and Family Sciences and later, a certification in School Counseling. I have completed internships where I was able to work directly with students, teachers, and families, providing guidance and support in a variety of settings. I aim to equip clients with the tools they need to manage stress, resolve conflicts, and build self-confidence. I am extremely passionate about assisting others in navigating critical life transitions such as dealing with family issues, preparing for grade level changes, and other life transitions. I have helped students cope with stress and anxiety related to academic pressure and social struggles. My approach is always person-centered, grounded in understanding their unique needs and aspirations.

My name is Amanda Schneider and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Georgia. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences and then obtained my Master’s degree in Social Work from Valdosta State University. I am currently under supervision, supervised by Adina Tucker LCSW, while I work to obtain my LCSW. Life transitions can be challenging whether you’re adjusting to a new phase, managing anxiety, moving through grief, facing relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck. I work with adults and teenagers (13+) who are navigating these complexities, offering a grounded space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported. Therapy is unique to each person and together, we will explore what works best for you. In a safe space, we will explore your strengths, goals, and experiences in order to find healing and growth. My approach is collaborative, down-to-earth, and centered on helping you reconnect with yourself. Together, we’ll focus on building self-esteem, practicing self-compassion, and recognizing your own strengths especially in moments when those things feel hard to access. With a background in hospice care, I have experience working with individuals and families navigating chronic illness, death, and the grief that comes with those experiences. I’ve also worked with older adults navigating anxiety, depression, isolation, and aging related issues. These experiences shaped the way I show up as a therapist and I strive to offer a space where you feel safe to be yourself and talk through your true thoughts and feelings. Starting therapy isn’t always easy, and it’s okay to feel unsure about where to begin. I’m here to walk alongside you as you move toward healing, reconnect with a sense of purpose, and build skills that support you long after our work together.

It is incredibly important to have a space where you can just be you. My hope is to provide a comfortable place to talk and process life events, to celebrate successes and to navigate through challenges. There are so many different areas of life that are important, and balancing them all, while finding time to process it all can be challenging. Sometimes dealing with family relationships while away at school can be hard, especially when they are changing and shifting. At times, learning to navigate anxiety and expectations for school and peers can be overwhelming. Figuring out how to balance it all can be a big task. My goal is to support and help you find ways to grow and learn, and navigate these times so that you can be and become who you want to be.

Hello, I’m Joanna, a compassionate and experienced psychotherapist dedicated to helping adults, college students, and student-athletes navigate life’s challenges. College can be an exciting time, but balancing academic pressure, relationships, independence, finances, athletic responsibilities, and expectations for the future can also feel overwhelming. Whether you are experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship concerns, co-dependency, low self-esteem, emotional regulation difficulties, or everyday stress, I provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood. I also provide therapy for athletes experiencing performance anxiety, difficulty balancing academics and athletics, burnout, injuries, identity concerns, low confidence, and stress related to competition or team expectations. Together, we will explore the challenges you are facing, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical tools to strengthen your coping skills, confidence, emotional well-being, and overall performance. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to your individual needs. I earned my degrees from Northern Kentucky University with honors, specializing in Trauma-Informed Care, and I am currently pursuing my doctorate to expand my clinical expertise. I incorporate a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to ensure that treatment is personalized to your experiences and goals. You do not have to navigate college, athletics, or life’s challenges alone. Taking the first step toward therapy is a courageous decision, and I am here to support you throughout the process. Together, we can work toward helping you heal, grow, build resilience, and create a life that feels balanced and meaningful.
