Therapists for college students near Georgia State University
Beginning the process of therapy is a powerful step into understanding and developing the best self. I believe in a holistic approach to therapy. People are influenced by a variety of factors that influence their personal values and behaviors. It is incredibly important for me to honor a person where they are at. I collaborate with clients to work towards goals that are meaningful for them. I draw from a variety of frameworks and therapeutic treatment modalities. Traditional Cognitive Behavior Therapy is empirically sound and an effective theoretical approach I utilize. I also draw techniques from DBT, Person Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. I am EMDR trained and utilize this modality for those clients who have experienced acute and complex trauma. EMDR is also indicated for clients who have tried traditional therapy and feel "stuck". EMDR can help shift change as clients sort through negative memories tied to negative self beliefs. I have had the privilege of working with a variety of concerns. Many of my clients have struggled with adjustment, relationship issues, trauma, depression and anxiety.
The college/university experience is a unique transition point where many individuals face new challenges and often overwhelming situations. In my practice, I provide a collaborative and safe environment, ensuring you are not alone in facing these challenges. Whether you are dealing with emergent anxiety or mood issues, managing complex family dynamics, navigating questions about identity, belonging, or worth, or dealing with the pain of grief, my warm, engaging, and culturally relevant approach works in tandem with psychodynamic and evidence-based strategies to help you to identify tools that allow you to understand and cope with whatever you face. As we work together, I am committed to helping you survive and thrive by helping you know where you currently stand, identify where you desire to go and create actionable steps to get there. I am licensed to conduct telehealth sessions with individuals in Georgia and New York.

Hi! I am Kaye Davis and I am a Licensed professional counselor in the heart of the classic city of Athens, GA. I have years of experience working with those individuals who are attending school, graduating, or even staff members that struggle with mental health stress. I believe you all are the experts on your life, and I am here to just walk alongside of you as you navigate this thing we call life. I have years of experience as a Collegiate basketball coach and also former athlete myself at Berry College in Rome, GA. I have a different quirky style of therapy, but at the end of the day, my number one goal is to provide you the ability to talk and explore areas that are strengths but also while looking at growth opportunities. Do you struggle with just being yourself these days? Well, kick off your shoes, relax, put up your feet, let's get real and talk. Many people see therapy as a never ending cycle of therapists sitting with a notepad repeating, "How does that make you feel?". I can assure therapy with me is never a cliche. I know how easy it is to feel alone and always asking why me. Some days it's easy to feel trapped looking for the fastest escape. Others you want to burst into tears or moments you feel like you're making all the wrong choices. I can understand if you need a break and want to scream. I'm here to help. Let's explore those issues you may be struggling with together and take back control of your life.

I’m a first-generation daughter who grew up learning to navigate life’s biggest transitions without a guidebook. From a young age, I was fiercely independent, facing adversity head-on and figuring things out as I went. That experience taught me the deep value of healing, and it shaped my belief that no one should have to struggle alone. I know what it feels like to be lost in the process of change when the road ahead is unclear and support feels out of reach. That’s why I’m passionate about being a therapist. I see the courage it takes to reach out, and I honor the resilience that lives in every person I meet. My work is rooted in creating a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to find their way forward, no matter where they’re starting from.

Sexuality is a fraught topic and no one should have to navigate it alone. I’m Amanda Auchenpaugh, LCSW, and I’m here to support you on your journey to sexual self-actualization. Clients come to me with a variety of concerns: sexual desire, identity questions, sexual shame, body image concerns, religious deconstruction, navigating new types of relationships like queer, kinky, or non-monogamous ones, or they simply want a space to explore sexuality in a way they never have before. None of us gets to adulthood without some struggle with sexuality, and by seeking support we can start breaking down the stigma and shame associated with sex in order to lead more pleasurable lives! Our relationship to pleasure is often at the root of our struggles, and it is my mission to increase collective access to pleasure in all areas of our lives. When working with me, you will always get my authentic self in our sessions, which is warm, encouraging, and sometimes a bit sassy (always with consent to let Sassy Therapist Amanda show up in the room). We’ll laugh, cry, strategize, learn, explore, question, and most importantly harness our curiosity and imagination. Because I use a feminist approach to therapy, I work hard to examine and dismantle the power dynamics that exist in the therapy space, meaning we’ll work towards showing up as equals as much as we can. I work to root my practice (and my life) in anti-oppressive frameworks, moving towards liberation for all genders, races, body types, abilities, nationalities, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, and relationship/family structures. My work is holistic and systemic, which means that we tend to all the parts of you and how they affect one another, plus the ways all the micro, mezzo, and macro systems in your life impact you. I use a variety of approaches to help you improve your relationship with your body and better tune in to the information and gifts it has for you. As for me personally, I am a white cisgender woman in my 30s. I am part of the queer, non-monogamous, and kink communities, and have personal experiences with religious trauma, body shame, disordered eating, ADHD, divorce, and parenting. My hobbies include dance, birding, hosting parties, baking, audiobooks (mostly sapphic romance novels), visual arts, gardening, and travel. My friends would describe me as energetic, kind, creative, and fiercely (sometimes aggressively) empowering. I’ve lived in the Athens area since 2009 and currently live with my partner, daughter, and my two cats. I offer individual and relational (couples or more-than-two relationships) therapy, dance therapy, educational classes, workshops, case consultation, and host a monthly edu-tainment event called One Night Stand. In addition to my clinical work, I’m available to speak for your class, organization, or event about an array of sexuality-related topics. Basically I’m a total sexuality nerd who jumps at the chance to share what I’m passionate about! For more information about any of these services, feel free to contact me so we can determine what service(s) would be the best fit for you and/or your organization. While I am not in-network with any insurance, upon request I am happy to provide clients documentation to submit to their insurance for potential reimbursement. Because accessibility is important to me, I have a limited number of sliding scale offerings for therapy clients who do not have the means to pay the full rate for services. I see clients in-person at our office near downtown Athens or via Telehealth.

I love working with motivated individuals who are striving to reduce anxiety, move past overwhelm, and bring balance back into their lives. School is filled with new experiences and transitions that can kick off or intensify anxiety and stress. It doesn't have to be that way. I can help you get to the root of what's bothering you and teach you tools to move forward with your life and goals. I specialize in working with adults and caregivers affected by cancer or chronic illness. I also work with adult adoptees curious about or pursuing search and reunion.
Life is hard. For many of us, we often become overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, loneliness, uncertainty, fear, you name it. To make things worse, we experience trauma and discover that some of our deepest wounds come from our relationships. Of course, we want to protect ourselves from relationships, change, and the unknown. I get that. From working in schools, residential facility, and private practice setting, I've learned that there is also something inside each of us that yearns for healing, loving connection, and pure joy. So, what is getting in the way? Let's explore that together. I have a non-judgmental and compassionate approach when providing counseling for individuals. What that means is I relate to you as another imperfect human being who understands the impact of trauma, life transitions, stress, anxiety and several other factors that affect our day-to-day lives. I will offer you a space to freely explore your struggles and opportunities for healing. Let’s be real, we don’t know each other and it’s going to feel weird at first to share your story with me. I thank you for even considering. Sometimes the hardest step is the first one. I recognize and respect that. Whenever you’re ready, I am ready to join you. You don't have to figure it out on your own.
