Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Hello! Intrusive and scary thoughts, over-analyzing, mental reviewing of events, repetitive behaviors, and skin-picking. These are all symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety is natural, but when severe, it can be hard to cope with — often getting in the way of things we want in our lives! My passion is to help others begin the journey of working through the anxiety, toward the life they want to have. I make use of a variety of therapeutic modalities, including ERP, ComB, ACT, and I-CBT, but I ultimately hope treatment will be a collaborative process assisting you in identifying steps to reach your goals. I strive to create a safe space in which you feel comfortable to discuss your thoughts and fears. Given that I have my own lived experience with OCD, I feel I can provide a deeper level of understanding for those living with anxiety and OCD. I, too, have been there. I understand how scary and difficult it can be. We can take that first step together.

I'm a clinical psychologist (PhD 1994, U Michigan) with 30 years experience meeting with adolescents, adults from 18-90, and couples. My doctoral research focused on loss and the impact of parental divorce. During my 25 years here I've met with many Cornell students, undergrads and grads. I make use of various approaches (psychodynamic, family systems, cognitive-behavioral), depending on what makes most sense. Family difficulties, romantic relationships, stress of all sorts, procrastination, and being 'stuck' completing academic work are common situations for which I've provided help.
Ashley’s approach emphasizes the use of specific tools and strategies to help adolescents and adults reduce distress, develop more flexible thinking, feel more connected in relationships, and address tendencies towards perfectionism and rigidity. Areas of specialization: -Stress and anxiety -Relationships and connection -Work-life balance -Life transitions -Self-esteem -Disordered eating -EMDR treatment I help clients who may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected or stuck to bring about lasting change and peace of mind. I work particularly well with clients who are struggling to build meaningful connections with others, as well as those navigating the balance between pursuing success and paralyzing perfectionism. My approach is warm, empathic, collaborative and non-judgmental; I aim for you to feel understood and empowered in session, and to carry those feelings into your broader life. I have extensive training in skill-based techniques, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), radically open dialectical behavioral therapy (RO DBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and insight-oriented therapies. I also offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through extended sessions. My training allows me to craft a treatment strategy that meets your unique needs and provides you with the tools to increase your self-awareness, sense of control over your feelings, and satisfaction with your life, relationships and choices. I specialize in working with teens, college students, and young adults through experienced professionals, including those with demanding jobs who would like to increase their sense of connection to their families. I have particular expertise in anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, social connectedness, grief, life transitions, perfectionism and disordered eating, with a focus on helping clients to remain present and resilient in response to day-to-day demands. I also have extensive experience training other clinicians, having supervised the clinical work of doctoral level therapists at George Mason University and Potomac Behavioral Solutions. Licensed Clinical Psychologist PsyD in Clinical Psychology Offering sessions via telehealth to clients based in: DC, Maryland, Virginia and all 40+ PSYPACT participating states.
Historically, I have worked with children and adults processing trauma, and supported those diagnosed with ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression. However, in recent years I have begun to narrow my focus on supporting University students. At this time in history I feel supporting the mental health of this group is of the utmost importance as they face existential and emotional challenges unique to the generations that have come before. Using a combination of creative interventions and talk therapy techniques, I offer a unique and collaborative therapeutic experience to support individuals through the transitional space of University life and provide a safe and affirming space for them to reflect on who they are and who they want to be in this world.
I believe that supportive therapy using a cognitive behavior approach allows people to open up and try new approaches to their problems. Trauma informed care is a major component part of my practice, there are many issues that are rooted in trauma. Understanding your past helps you to face your tomorrows. I have been practicing for over 40 years and still feel passionate about helping people be everything they dream to be. Working on issues that are stopping you from feeling happiness, successful, and peaceful is my goal for you.

I am so glad you're here. You just took the hardest step, so take a second for a self-hug. I believe therapy is one of the most rewarding things you can offer yourself, so congratulations. We are all on our own journey, have our own individual needs, and a history that makes us who we are. In turn, I work with every person, meet them where they are at, support & guide them, through a treatment plan we build together, to help them with their day to day challenges, and long term goals. Therapy is a beautiful tool that, if used correctly, can be life changing. I enjoy nothing more than guiding people in finding their way & themselves. I pull much of my practice from life experiences. I am an honest, authentic New Yorker who is empathetic, yet direct. For decades I have worked with young adults (high school into college) navigating the intricacies of relationships, self love, identity searching and beyond. Life can be hard. We can be even harder on ourselves. It is easy to get overwhelmed, lost, confused - but we do not need to be on this journey alone. I'm a therapist, or a friend - whatever you need in the moment. Some people are anxious about entering therapy, but my approach is: what a gift to have someone in your corner who is simply there to support you.

Hello! I specialize in providing art therapy and talk therapy services to help students navigate their mental health journey in a safe and supportive environment. I understand that students face challenges such as academic stress, relationship issues, family conflict, anxiety, and depression during their college years. I offer both art therapy and traditional talk therapy to cater to individual needs. Through art or verbal expression, students can gain insight, develop coping skills, and work towards healing and growth. If you're seeking a creative and holistic approach to mental health and well-being, I am here to support you on your journey towards healing and self-discovery.
Healing is rarely linear, and finding a provider who truly meets you where you are can make all the difference. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner bringing extensive clinical experience to every session, I specialize in helping people across the lifespan navigate challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and mood disorders. Whether you're facing something you've carried for years or navigating a new and difficult chapter, you deserve a space grounded in trust and open, honest communication. My goal is to be a reliable, collaborative partner in your care, helping you gain clarity, strengthen your coping skills, and move toward meaningful, lasting change. Compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care is more than a philosophy; it's how every session is shaped. Helping you better understand your mental health and build a sustainable path toward healing and resilience is what this work is all about. You can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where your unique needs and goals guide the direction of care. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and medication management, my focus is on developing practical coping skills and improving your emotional well-being. Every approach is thoughtfully tailored to you, because no two people, and no two journeys, are exactly the same. My path to this work began with early work in psychiatric facilities, where I witnessed firsthand the power of compassionate, consistent mental health care. Experiencing that impact deepened my commitment to trauma-informed, patient-centered practice that continues to guide every aspect of care today. Each session is approached with this same level of empathy, clinical insight, and a collaborative spirit, because the relationship between patient and provider matters just as much as the treatment itself. Outside of the office, staying active, creative, and connected to everyday life keeps things grounded. Whether working out, experimenting in the kitchen, or finding a sense of calm and creativity in pottery class, these pursuits bring the same intentionality and presence that shape the care offered to every patient.
