Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I have 20 years of experience treating adolescents and adults. As a trauma-informed therapist, I offer a safe and compassionate space where healing begins through connection. My approach is grounded in the belief that deep, lasting change happens not just through insight, but through feeling seen, felt, and understood in relationship.
At Kind Mind Psychological Services, our team is dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges with clarity, resilience, and confidence. We work collaboratively with you to better understand your experiences, guiding you through the process of healing from difficult emotions, past experiences, and periods of transition. Our mission is to empower you to build meaningful, lasting change by developing practical skills, healthier perspectives, and a deeper understanding of yourself. Grounded in both clinical expertise and strong organizational leadership, our practice is designed to ensure that compassionate care and operational excellence work hand in hand to support your growth. Our clinicians use evidence-based approaches, including cognitive and behavioral therapies, to create structured, personalized treatment plans tailored to your unique needs. Drawing from integrative modalities such as relational, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and existential therapies, we help clients identify and dismantle unhelpful patterns—whether they stem from anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship challenges—and replace them with more adaptive ways of thinking, feeling, and living. We believe that every individual possesses the internal capacity for transformation, and our role is to help you access and strengthen those resources.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist. I am also SIFI certified and EMDR trained. I have vast experience in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention gained from working in a hospital setting. I specialize in working with persons who have experienced trauma as a result of family issues, domestic and intimate partner violence and sexual assault. I work with a variety of populations that include adolescents, emerging adults and adults in crisis and utilize evidence based modalities dependent on client's needs.
I believe therapy is a place where I can help facilitate your growth, where together we can help build a tool box that you can take with you into your life. I have a psychodynamic approach to treatment, mixing various interventions and modalities. I use an eclectic and integrative set of techniques in order to address the multiple ways in which we live in the world and experience our lives. Principles of equality, social justice, and rehabilitation drove me to the field of Social Work. But it is the incredibly rewarding experiences providing clinical services and advocacy for both adolescents and adults that has helped me to develop an incisive and expanded understanding of these principles. I am licensed (LCSW) by NY State to practice psychotherapy. I am a member of the National Association of Social Work. Whether it is your first time coming to therapy or you are interested in expanding your set of tools, therapy will offer a safe space to explore issues together. Please contact me for fee information. This site does not allow me to list pricing based on the type of appointment (Individual/Couples/Families).

The Rust Wellness approach to therapy is tailoring each session to fit the needs of the client and consistently reevaluating to meet their evolving issues and concerns. We know how difficult it is to open up about mental health topics, especially with a stranger, so we strive to establish a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages our clients to share their vulnerabilities. Trust is incredibly important in a therapist-client relationship, so we aim to create an environment that will facilitate our clients’ comfort.

My work in the field of counseling began in 1992 and I have been a clinician in practice for over 25 years. I specialize in helping clients work through trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and supporting them on their journey to improved balance in life. My therapeutic approach is person centered. I work closely with clients to help them connect with their values, gain personal insight, understanding and self-compassion. With a trauma-informed mindset, I strive to create a safe and therapeutic environment. This entails a blend of treatment interventions designed to best match individual needs. I draw inspiration from the work of colleagues like: Brene Brown, Bessel Van der Kolk, Gabor Mate, Alfred Adler, Carl Rogers, and Carl Jung. These individuals are leaders in the field of counseling and therapy. They are the inspiration that has helped build my foundation for an enduring and balanced practice. My counseling background includes work with adults, college students, children and families, couples, Military Personnel, Veterans, and their families, as well as disabled adults. In my current work, I focus on helping individuals rebuild a foundation from which to grow from. Because I am a firm believer in the power of yoga, self-reflection, and meditation; when appropriate, I weave Eastern Philosophies into treatment. For example, the body holds trauma in seven main body parts (pelvis, diaphragm, throat, jaw, hamstrings, shoulders, and neck). With the application of some yoga, meditation, and mindful attention, we can help the body release underlying trapped feelings so that healing can begin.

Getting help can be frightening. When suffering feels unclear or confusing, having someone to shed light on what you are going through makes a world of a difference. I have had a career of helping many people in tough moments while providing a safe, healing and empathic environment. I continue my beliefs and commitment to providing this to people dealing with trauma, depression and anxiety. It’s important to have someone in kinship to your journey. Find a renewed sense of comfort, wholeness and understanding to your experience. A relational space which allows open dialogue and collaboration over your life situation will bring about positive change and insight into needs, decisions or ambivalences. Common approaches can help someone cope on a moment-to-moment basis. Meanwhile, layers of your experiences and whether significant relationships have met your needs still necessitate insight and healing.
Are you struggling with relationships, trauma, or self-compassion? As humans, we want to connect and feel a sense of safety, security, and curiosity about ourselves and the world around us. Together we can work to overcome past hurt and present-day anxieties to build stronger connections and live more fully. As a relational therapist, my goal is to build a genuine, collaborative relationship with my clients where we work together to explore experiences, set meaningful goals, and experiment with new ways being. I use a blend of methodologies tailored to each client's needs, drawing from training in EMDR, IFS, Gottman, EFT, AEDP, and Somatic approaches. I enjoy drawing from a social justice and intersectional lens which pairs well with my interpersonal and conversational style. Let’s talk about where you are in your journey and how we can work together to achieve your goals.
Do you feel like anxiety, sadness, or grief is making it hard to enjoy your life the way you hoped you would? Maybe you expected this chapter of your life to feel exciting or full of possibility, but instead you feel overwhelmed, confused, or like something is “off.” You might be dealing with loss, relationship stress, changes in your body, or worries about the future. You may not even have the words for what you are feeling. You just know you do not feel like yourself. You are not alone, and you do not have to figure this out by yourself. I’m Gabrielle, and I support students who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, reproductive or hormonal changes, identity shifts, and life transitions. Many of the students I work with are navigating experiences like: • Anxiety or depression that feels heavier than usual • Grief after a loss or major life change • Pregnancy or postpartum feelings that are confusing or overwhelming • Stress related to fertility concerns or reproductive health • Difficult medical or hospital experiences • Identity or relationship changes that feel unsettling My approach is compassionate, down-to-earth, and centered on what you need most. Therapy with me is a place where you can slow down, explore what you are feeling, and learn tools to help you cope day to day. In our work together, you will find a safe space to: • Untangle overwhelming thoughts and emotions • Learn coping skills you can use right away • Process grief, fear, or confusion with support • Reconnect with what matters to you • Feel more grounded and hopeful again You do not have to carry everything on your own. With the right support, healing is possible, and you can start to feel more like yourself again.
