Do you feel overwhelmed by trying to do it all and balancing the responsibilities of school, work, family & friendships? Do you feel constant pressure to be the one that always holds everything together and if you don’t, everything around you will fall apart? Do you find that you spend so much of your time taking care of everyone and everything else that you don’t know who you are anymore? Do you struggle with maintaining healthy relationships and wonder, “when will I ever get it right?” If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone! Now, imagine having a safe place to talk about all your thoughts and feelings where you feel heard and understood. Imagine living a life with less guilt, worry, and stress. Imagine having time to complete your responsibilities and having time for yourself to enjoy the things you love. Imagine feeling better about yourself and your relationships with others. Therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, grounded in reality, and focused on meaningful progress. I bring an integrative, strengths-based, and goal-oriented approach to our work together. Whether you are navigating a specific life transition, managing chronic stress, or working through deeper emotional hurdles, my aim is to help you uncover what is working, identify what needs to change, and build a practical roadmap to get there. My Approach Strengths-Based & Collaborative: We will focus heavily on identifying and leveraging your natural strengths and resiliencies—finding the things you are already good at and using them as a foundation for growth. Solution-Focused & Goal-Oriented: We work together to figure out what needs to change, why those changes matter to you, and how to make them happen in a sustainable way. Flexible & Balanced: Therapy should meet you where you are. I am comfortable giving you the time and space needed to develop insight, motivation, and clear goals. At the same time, I am not afraid to gently encourage change, support healthy risk-taking, and help hold you accountable to your own aspirations. Contextual & Systemic: Problems do not occur in a vacuum. Your experiences are shaped by your relationships, your environment, and society at large—especially where systemic oppression or social barriers are present. Background & Experience With over two decades of clinical experience across a wide array of backgrounds and challenges, I have spent my career supporting individuals through profound adversity. Crisis & Complex Care: Extensive background working with individuals experiencing extreme poverty, homelessness, and severe mental health conditions. Veterans Care: Currently serving as a Suicide Prevention Coordinator, providing specialized, compassionate care to Veterans at risk. Core Beliefs: I firmly believe that people can change and grow, and that therapy can and should be time-limited. You do not have to carry your challenges alone, and healing happens best when we look at the whole person within their world.
I was born and raised in Montana and have a genuine passion for nature and the outdoors. I received my Bachelors in Psychology at Montana State University in 2001. I then pursued my Masters of Social Work degree and graduated in 2008 from the University of Montana. This graduate program had a focus on providing a social justice and integrated practitioner perspective. I have an eclectic style that can be tailored to each unique individual. My primary therapeutic methods include Mindfulness Based, Holistic, Exposure, Narrative, Cognitive and Behavioral, Strengths Based & Solution Focused Therapies. Amy provides a non-judgmental and compassionate environment that often helps people feel comfortable. A true passion of mine is structuring therapeutic activities for clients to express, process, increase self-awareness, and de-stress from life’s challenging and developmental experiences. My past work experiences have been in several areas. I have worked in healthcare with the geriatric population, provided school based mental health to kids from grades kindergarten through 12th grade, substance abuse counseling to college aged kids, crisis intervention with the armed forces and a private practice providing therapeutic services to a wide range of people, families and couples that include helping folks who struggle with Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and life transitions/changes.
The college years are a time of self discovery and challenge. Opening yourself up to new people, experiences and ways of thinking can be both invigorating and daunting. Being away from the known can feel overwhelming. What I can offer you is an opportunity to explore underlying patterns of thought, behavior and communication that may inhibit your ability to meet your own expectations of yourself during this unique time in your life. Together we will work to identify and overcome the obstacles that have interfered with your ability to resolve distressing issues. Together we will calm your anxious mind, alleviate symptoms of depression, increase self-awareness, identify strengths and empower you to move your life in a more positive direction.
Finding a therapist is difficult, it’s scary, and it can be overwhelming – there are so many different providers just on this site! I’m here to help. I’ll work with you to closely examine your past and present experiences to better your future. I promise you that in our sessions, I will bring empathy, honesty, collaboration, and an open mind. So, how do I practice? I’m an integrative therapist – I’m trained in psychodynamic therapy, and I use tools from other treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, when appropriate and to better serve you. Basically, I believe we need to journey together to explore what internal anxieties, traumas or experiences are causing you discomfort, pain, or just a general feeling of being “stuck.” And I’ll also work practically with you in the here and now to provide further insight and relief. Ultimately, the relationship between therapist and client is incredibly important to helping you achieve your goals. I’ll do my best to make you feel safe, seen, and heard. I’m honored that you’re willing to give this a chance, and I invite you to reach out for a free consultation to see if we’re a good match.

College is a time of real growth — and real pressure. For many students, it's also when questions about identity, mental health, and how they move through the world come into sharper focus. I work with college students who are navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, identity exploration, trauma history, or the particular exhaustion that comes with being neurodivergent in demanding academic environments. Many of the young adults I work with are autistic, ADHD, or both — and are often doing so without the scaffolding that got them through high school. Others are transgender or gender-diverse, and are figuring out who they are while managing minority stress, family dynamics, and systems that don't always make things easy. My approach is relational and collaborative. I don't follow a rigid protocol — I draw from ACT, DBT, and CBT, and I tailor what we do to who you are and what you actually need. Sessions are a place to build insight, develop real skills, and figure out how to live more fully as yourself. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in gender-diverse care, trauma, and neurodevelopment. Before opening my practice, I spent two years at Yale's Pediatric Gender Program and completed my doctoral internship at Yale School of Medicine. I keep my caseload focused so I can do this work with the depth it deserves. Sessions are available via telehealth across Connecticut and New York, and in person in Southington, CT — which may be convenient for students at nearby colleges and universities. I also see adolescents and teens, so referrals for younger clients are welcome. I'm happy to connect with counseling center staff to discuss fit, coordination of care, or consultation. The best way to reach me is through my website or by phone.
I am a clinical psychologist licensed in New York. I live and work in Ithaca, where I see clients both virtually, via video conference, and in person at my home office. I work with individuals from young adult to senior. My primary approaches are dynamic and Person Centered. I am also very comfortable with more solutions focused therapies like CBT and am trained in specialty approaches including CBT-i (CBT for insomnia), Motivational Interviewing, and Prolonged Exposure. I work with individuals seeking personal growth, exploring their relationships past and present, managing life transitions, and addressing anxiety, depresssion, and insomnia. College years are stressful, and the traditional “college years” are years of intense personal change and development. It is a crucial time to have support, to examine the self, to grow into your own preferences and potential. I use Headway for billing and scheduling - please visit my website to arrange a consultation to have a conversation to help us both decide if my practice is a good fit for your needs. The prices posted for initial and follow up sessions are for cash pay - if I am in network with your insurance, it is accepted as payment in full, although you may also have a co-pay depending on your coverage. When you go to my website you will notice that I offer initial 10 minute phone consultation at no charge. These are not treatment, but are designed to give us both a chance to see if my practice is a good fit for you and your therapy needs. I look forward to speaking with you
